The Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus) is one of the most iconic reef-fish species — easily recognised by its bold black, white and yellow banding, long trailing dorsal filament and compressed body. 

At TSM Aquatics, each Moorish Idol is professionally quarantined, conditioned and actively eating a wide variety of frozen foods (including mysis shrimp, spirulina brine, bloodworms and clam on the half shell) to maximize your chances of long-term success.

• Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive (can be moderately territorial)

• Reef Safe: With caution may nip at corals, small inverts, or compete for food. 

• Diet: Highly specialised in the wild feeding largely on sponges, tunicates, algae and invertebrates.  In captivity we ensure this fish is eating prepared frozen foods so you don’t have to rely solely on wild behaviors. Recommend algae supplement.

• Tank Size: Minimum 200 gallons or larger strongly recommended. Very large swimming space, excellent water quality and stable system required. 

• Maximum Size: Up to approx. 8-9″ (21-23 cm) standard, but needs space accordingly.
