The Sunrise Dottyback (Pseudochromis flavivertex) is a striking reef fish known for its bold orange front half fading into a deep purple rear half. A captive-bred specimen from TSM Aquatics, it offers hardiness, brilliant coloration, and easier acclimation compared to wild caught dottybacks.

Care Essentials:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons single; 50+ gallons preferred if keeping multiple dottybacks.

  • Temperament: Territorial and semi-aggressive, especially toward conspecifics and fish of similar shape. Use caution when selecting tankmates.

  • Diet: Carnivorous. Offer meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, and quality frozen mixes.

  • Reef Compatibility: Generally compatible with corals, though it may nip at small invertebrates—monitor interactions, especially in small systems.

  • Water Conditions: Maintain stable reef parameters — temperature 76–82 °F, salinity 1.024–1.026, pH 8.1–8.4.

  • Behavior: Will pick a territory and defend it, often sheltering in rockwork crevices. Provide caves and hiding spots to reduce stress.
